Meet the Audiologists

Elise North Uhring, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Elise Uhring has been an audiologist for over 20 years. Prior to practicing in Huntingdon, she was the clinic coordinator and instructor at Penn State University from 1994 to 2008. Dr. Uhring has presented at conferences on hearing health subjects and has been published in audiology journals in the area of auditory processing disorders.
Dr. Uhring completed her undergraduate degree in deaf education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, her master’s degree in audiology from James Madison University, and her doctorate of audiology from Salus University.
She has managed to do all of this as well as be a wife and proud mother of two children.
Dr. Uhring’s previous experiences have included full-time employment in an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctor’s office, a veteran’s administration hospital, as well as consulting for various retirement villages. Current interests include diagnostic audiology, digital hearing aid technology, and auditory processing disorders.
She is a member of:

- The Pennsylvania Academy of Audiology (past board member)
Dr. Uhring is board certified by the American Academy of Audiology and is a past newsletter chairperson of the Pennsylvania Academy of Audiology. She maintains the highest level of knowledge and familiarization with hearing loss, new hearing aid technology, and balance disorders. By attending state and national conventions and receiving continuing education credits, Dr. Uhring is familiar with the most up-to-date treatments and technology available, including otoacoustic emissions and electronystagmography.
With over 20 years of clinical experience working closely with several ENTs and many other physicians, Dr. Uhring has extensive experience to professionally assess, diagnose, and treat all audiological related problems. She specializes in advanced technology hearing aids that individually fit a person’s hearing loss and in the assessment and treatment of auditory processing disorders.

Angela G. Boonie, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Angela Boonie has been an audiologist for over 10 years. Prior to practicing in Uhring’s Huntingdon location, she was employed at an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Physician’s office.
Dr. Boonie completed her undergraduate degree Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State University in 2002 and her Doctorate of Audiology from Bloomsburg University in 2006. Dr. Boonie’s interests include diagnostic audiology and digital hearing aid technology. She is a current member of The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology.

Chelsea A. Hoy, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Chelsea Hoy has been working at Uhring’s Hearing and Balance since graduating from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2022, practicing in our State College and Lewistown locations.
Dr. Hoy completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and her Doctorate of Audiology from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2022. Dr. Hoy completed her residency here at Uhring’s Hearing and Balance and accepted a full-time position after graduation. Dr. Hoy has interests in diagnostic audiology, digital hearing aid technology, pediatrics, and community outreach. She is currently a member of The American Speech-Language Hearing Association as well as The American Academy of Audiology.

Haley Link, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology
Haley Link is the newest audiologist to join the Uhring’s Hearing and Balance team, practicing in our Bellefonte and State College locations.
Dr. Link completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 2021 and her Doctorate of Audiology from West Virginia University in 2024. Dr. Link has interests in diagnostic audiology, digital hearing aid technology, and Auditory Processing Disorder. In her free time, Dr. Link enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their dog, reading, baking, and traveling.

Bonnie Varner
Registered Pennsylvania Hearing Aid Dispenser
Bonnie has been with the practice since the beginning, starting as the receptionist. In 2006, she began the process of becoming a registered hearing aid dispenser. She continues to attend educational seminars to keep up to date with the latest technology and how it can better serve the patients.
Bonnie also takes care of all of the insurance billing and accounts receivable. Should you have any questions regarding your coverage, she is happy to help.

Aleea Faus, B.S.
Audiology Doctoral Resident
Aleea is currently our 4th year Audiology Doctoral Resident, practicing in our State College location.
Aleea completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2021 and will graduate with her Doctorate of Audiology from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2025. Aleea is excited to be back at Uhring’s Hearing and Balance for her 4th year residency. She was previously at the practice for one of her 3rd year placements. In addition to Uhring’s, Aleea has worked at Advanced Audiology in Pottsville, PA. She plans to accept a full-time position with Uhring’s Hearing and Balance after graduation. Aleea has interests in diagnostic auditory brainstem response, hearing aids, diagnostic audiology testing, and improving quality of life for patients. In her free time, Aleea enjoys reading, golfing, watching sports, and spending time with family.

Amy Beth Book
Front Office Staff / Insurance Specialist
Amy is the friendly face who will greet you when you come in for an appointment and who can answer any of your insurance questions. Before joining our team in 2021, Amy worked in a Chiropractic office for five years and in property management for 10 years. She has valuable skills in customer service and is always willing to help patients in any way she can. She enjoys interacting with patients and seeing the joy people get from hearing new sounds.
Amy is happily married to her husband, Jim. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, crafting, and wreathmaking.
Diane Swanger
Front Desk Receptionist
Diane has been with the practice since 2008 and is the friendly face who greets you for your appointments. She will take care of all your needs while waiting to see the hearing specialist. Diane will check you in and help you complete all of your paperwork. She is also the one who will make your follow-up appointments. She enjoys meeting new patients and seeing our regulars who come in for check-ups.
In her free time, Diane likes to read and play bingo.
Tammy Rhodes
Front Desk Receptionist
Tammy is the person who answers your phone calls and greets everyone who steps into our office. She has valuable experience as an Emergency Medical Tech and in customer service. She enjoys meeting new patients and helping them navigate their questions and helping them feel comfortable. Tammy has a genuine passion for helping people and finds it rewarding to be able to help the patients who come see us.
In her free time, Tammy enjoys visiting with family and friends.
Alyssa Uhring
Business Manager
Alyssa is the Business Manager at Uhring’s Hearing and Balance, working out of the State College office to oversee finance, marketing, and administration for the business.
A Bellefonte native and Penn State alumna – she graduated in 2019 with her B.S. Hospitality Management, minor in Business, with a focus in Economics. Alyssa brings five years of experience from her previous operation and administration roles at the former Mandarin Oriental Washington DC, now rebranded as the Salamander Washington DC. After marrying Elise’s son, Andrew, in 2023, they decided to return to the area to be closer to both of their families, and Alyssa joined the Uhring family business. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her husband, their puppy, Appalachia “Appa,” and two cats, Kiara & Mochi.

In Memory of James Uhring
James “Jim” Uhring peacefully passed away, while holding his wife’s hand in July 2023. He was married to the love of his life, Elise Uhring, and the two shared nearly 29 years of marriage. In 2008, the two opened Uhring’s Hearing & Balance Center. Jim was the business manager and marketing director while Elise continues to own and operate the practice as an audiologist. Jim retired in 2020 after some health complications.
Jim is survived by his wife, Elise, and their two children, Andrew and AnaLise, as well as the family dog, Riley, who Jim resisted bringing home at first but ended up being best friends with for years. Jim enjoyed gardening, singing, and cooking. He especially enjoyed antiquing and had a passion for thrift stores. He will always be remembered for his incredible generosity, kindness, and amazing sense of humor.
Jim is greatly missed by all who knew him.
