Uhring’s Hearing and Balance Center is a private audiology practice specializing in hearing, balance, auditory processing disorders, tinnitus, and pediatric hearing health. Our team of Doctors of Audiology, Audiology Assistants, and Hearing Aid Dispensers provides comprehensive care and management for patients.

Elise North Uhring, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Elise Uhring is a highly experienced audiologist with over 30 years of dedicated service. She has a strong academic background, having earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree from James Madison University, and a doctorate from Salus University.
Prior to establishing her practice in Huntingdon, Dr. Uhring held a position as a clinic coordinator and instructor at Penn State University from 1994 to 2008. She has also worked in various settings, including an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctor’s office, a VA hospital, and consulted with various retirement communities.
Dr. Uhring is actively involved in the audiology community, serving as a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Audiology, The American Academy of Audiology, The Educational Audiology Association, and The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge through presentations at conferences and publications in audiology journals. Her expertise lies in diagnostic audiology, advanced hearing aid technology, and auditory processing disorders.
Dr. Uhring’s commitment to staying current with the latest advancements in audiology ensures that her patients receive the highest quality care. She is dedicated to providing personalized solutions to address individual hearing needs.

Angela G. Boonie, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Angela Boonie is a seasoned audiologist with over 18 years of experience. Before joining Uhring’s Hearing and Balance, she worked in an ENT practice, gaining valuable insights into collaborative care.
Dr. Boonie holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State University and a Doctorate of Audiology from Bloomsburg University. Her expertise lies in diagnostic audiology and the latest advancements in digital hearing aid technology.
As a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Dr. Boonie is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest industry standards. Her dedication to providing exceptional patient care is evident in her compassionate approach and comprehensive audiological services.

Dr. Haley Cherilla, Au.D.
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Haley Cherilla is a recent addition to the Uhring’s Hearing and Balance team. She holds a Doctorate of Audiology from West Virginia University and a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Cherilla’s areas of interest include diagnostic audiology, digital hearing aid technology, and Auditory Processing Disorder. When she’s not practicing audiology, Dr. Cherilla enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog, as well as reading, baking, and traveling.
Dr. Cherilla practices out of our Bellefonte and State College offices.
Dr. Aleea Dreese, Au.D.
Doctor of Audiology
We are pleased to welcome Aleea as a practicing audiologist at our State College and Lewistown locations. A graduate of the Doctor of Audiology program at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Aleea previously gained valuable experience at Uhring’s Hearing & Balance and Advanced Audiology. Aleea is passionate about improving the quality of life for individuals with hearing loss. Her areas of interest include diagnostic auditory brainstem response, hearing aids, and comprehensive audiological testing.
Outside of work, Aleea enjoys reading, golfing, watching sports, and spending time with family.

Bonnie Varner
Registered Pennsylvania Hearing Aid Dispenser
Audiologist Assistant
Bonnie has been an integral part of our practice since its inception, starting as a dedicated receptionist. Her commitment to professional growth led her to become a Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser in 2006, and subsequently, an Audiologist Assistant in 2010. Bonnie continues to expand her knowledge and skills through ongoing education and training.
Bonnie practices out of our Lewistown and Huntingdon offices.

Front Desk Receptionist / Credentialing Administrator
Amy is our friendly receptionist who will warmly welcome you to our office. With a background in chiropractic and property management, she brings a wealth of customer service experience to her role. Amy is always happy to assist patients with insurance questions and any other needs. She finds great satisfaction in helping patients and witnessing the positive impact of improved hearing.
When not at work, Amy enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Jim, and pursuing hobbies like crafting and wreath-making.

Diane Swanger
Front Desk Receptionist
Diane has been a valued member of our team since 2008. As our friendly receptionist, she welcomes patients with a warm smile and ensures a smooth check-in and check-out process. Diane is always ready to assist with paperwork and schedule follow-up appointments. She enjoys building relationships with our patients and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Outside of work, Diane finds joy in reading and playing bingo.

Tammy Rhodes
Front Desk Receptionist
Tammy joined the Uhring’s Hearing team in 2021 and is the friendly voice you hear when you call our office. With a background in Emergency Medical Technology and customer service, she brings valuable experience to her role as a receptionist. Tammy is dedicated to providing excellent patient care and enjoys assisting patients with their questions and concerns. Outside of work, she values spending time with loved ones.

AnaLise Uhring
Front Desk Receptionist
AnaLise, a proud Bellefonte native, is thrilled to join the Uhring’s Hearing and Balance team. You’ll find her at the front desk, welcoming patients, handling check-in and check-out, and assisting with hearing aid maintenance. AnaLise loves to chat and enjoys getting to know our patients personally. In her free time, she’s passionate about crafting, spending quality time with her dog, Riley and cat, Precious, and cherishing moments with her family.

Alyssa Uhring
Business Manager
Alyssa is the Business Manager at Uhring’s Hearing and Balance, working out of the State College office to oversee finance, marketing, and administration for the business.
A Bellefonte native and Penn State alumna – she graduated in 2019 with her B.S. Hospitality Management, minor in Business, with a focus in Economics. Alyssa brings five years of experience from her previous operation and administration roles at the former Mandarin Oriental Washington DC, now rebranded as the Salamander Washington DC. After marrying Elise’s son, Andrew, in 2023, they decided to return to the area to be closer to both of their families, and Alyssa joined the Uhring family business. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her husband, their puppy, Appalachia “Appa,” and two cats, Kiara & Mochi.

In Memory of James Uhring
James “Jim” Uhring peacefully passed away, while holding his wife’s hand in July 2023. He was married to the love of his life, Elise Uhring, and the two shared nearly 29 years of marriage. In 2008, the two opened Uhring’s Hearing & Balance Center. Jim was the business manager and marketing director while Elise continues to own and operate the practice as an audiologist. Jim retired in 2020 after some health complications.
Jim is survived by his wife, Elise, and their two children, Andrew and AnaLise, as well as the family dog, Riley, who Jim resisted bringing home at first but ended up being best friends with for years. Jim enjoyed gardening, singing, and cooking. He especially enjoyed antiquing and had a passion for thrift stores. He will always be remembered for his incredible generosity, kindness, and amazing sense of humor.
Jim is greatly missed by all who knew him.
